Meet The Owners

James Armstrong | Partner

James started his career 15 years ago as a summer labourer for one of Ottawa’s most reputable HVAC companies. The feeling of accomplishment at the end of each day had James hooked, and he decided to turn the summer position into a career. Throughout his career, James has continued to pursue further education, licensing, and certifications to become an expert in the industry. James is a licensed Gas Technician, 313A Commercial Refrigeration Systems Mechanic, 308R Low-Rise Sheet Metal Installer, and is HRAI certified in Hydronic System Design, Air System Design and Heat Loss/Gain Calculations.

James was born and raised in the west end of Ottawa. James now lives in Richmond with his wife Kenzie, daughter Ellie and their golden retriever Goose. When James isn’t working, he can usually be found wandering the aisles of Ottawa Fastener Supply or up at the lake with Kenzie, Ellie and Goose.

Joey Zdrilich | Partner

Joey was born and raised in the HVAC trade; his father worked in the trade, operating his own HVAC company for over 30 years. Joey would often tag along from the age of 10 and start officially working in the trade full-time when he turned 18. Joey is a licensed Gas Technician, a 313D Refrigeration Journeyman, a 308R Low-Rise Sheet Metal Installer, and is HRAI certified in Mechanical Ventilation Design.

Joey lives in Kanata North with his fiancé Steph and their two dogs, Arnie (Miniature Schnauzer) and Axel (German Shepherd). In his spare time, Joey can be found playing with the dogs, getting out for a ride on the ATV, or turning a wrench in the garage.

True North installed a new AC unit for us. Joe was super helpful and informative and he and his team were professional and fast. The team made some great recommendations to move our unit a bit to better enable us to open our gate and still allow enough room around all of the vents and pipes coming from the house. Very pleased with the service we received from Joey and the True North team. We had a whole home humidifier, UV light, and larger furnace filter system installed. The True North Team rebalanced our ERV system after moving the fresh air intake ducting. They arrived a little before their scheduled time and completed the entire job in 1 day. We were very impressed with their professionalism. Joey provided us with great advice and options. We also had Joey complete the scheduled maintenance on our Generac Generator. We would highly recommend True North Mechanical.

Had True North Mechanical come to fix an issue with my pool heater. They arrived within 24hrs, resolved the issue and the heater works like it is brand new! They were very professional and do a great clean up afterwards. Thanks for the great job!

This company is outstanding. This company picked up the phone when I called and immediately gave me a same day appointment. James came to my house exactly on time. He had my unit up and running quickly and explained to me the issue I could not have been happier. James was pleasant and polite and I am deeply appreciative for their quick response on this very hot day. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

So happy with True North Mechanical! They sourced me a new HVAC system when others couldn’t (was told by others 10-12 weeks and extra $$ if I wanted it within 8-10 weeks). Joey and team installed less than two weeks after I called (no extra $$ required)! They were professional and punctual - cleaned up when they were done - and even returned a couple of hours later with two new filters - now that’s service!

I called James at True North yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised when he said he would be at my house the next day to help me locate my shut valve that was buried in behind my HRV they installed a while ago. He repositioned the shut off valve right away so that I have easy access. I’m very happy!! He definitely went above and beyond, excellent customer service, I highly recommend True North for your HVAC services.

James and his team did a fantastic job today. They installed an HRV system in my new art studio and made some changes to our existing gas furnace and duct work. They also corrected some concerns from a previous contractor. I would highly recommend True North Mechanical!

James & Joey did an excellent job at setting up my Generac. They took time to show me how it works and helped to setup the WiFi on the generator. They even found a gas leak on the pipe leading to my pool heater and fixed it without charge!!
